HONDURAS

Honduras is one of the countries in Central America where micro, small and medium-sized firms have traditionally had major difficulties accessing financing on reasonable terms. Now entrepreneurs here are able to easily obtain small loans for investments and business expansion.

Facts and Stats

  • The project is benefitting approximately 10,000 micro, small and medium-sized businesses in Honduras that before had no access to financing.
  • MIF has provided $2.5 million in capital to ProCredit Honduras, which is equivalent to 12.5% of its capital.
  • 51% of the loan portfolio is for commercial activities. A small portion of the portfolio (0.2%) is related to livestock, an activity that is not common in microfinance.
  • 35,000 people have savings accounts worth a total of $17.5 million.
